Microblading at Salon Serenity Spa in Wake Forest is becoming more and more popular. It's a variation on permanent makeup that goes beyond simply tattooing coloring onto the skin. Especially for work on the eyebrow area, it looks dramatically more similar to natural eyebrow hair than other kinds of permanent makeup. The process is not entirely different, but the work is more detailed, with each dot of pigment injected separately but rapidly. While the long-lasting results are not permanent – they typically stay on for approximately two years – patients are consistently delighted with results that most people cannot distinguish from natural eyebrow hair. Aside from replacing thinning brows or substituting for mascara, microblading is also used by cancer patients and alopecia sufferers who want an appearance that doesn't attract attention.
WHAT IS MICROBLADING? Microblading is a technique where fine lines are scratched into the skin's surface and pigment embedded. The strokes accurately replicate hair (as in a brow or hairline). Results can last from six to 18 months, depending on various factors such as the color of pigment, skin type, and lifestyle.
WHAT IS PERMANENT MAKEUP? Permanent makeup is the treatment that replicates perfectly applied conventional makeup, most frequently on the brows, lash line, lips, and hairline—inserting cosmetic pigments into the dermis layer of the skin, also known as Microblading, Micro-Pigmentation, Brow Embroidery, and Cosmetic Tattooing.
HOW LONG DOES THE RESULT LAST? For brows, up to 18 months. For lips, one to two years. For eyeliner, three to five years. Hair color, skin type, aftercare, and lifestyle also affect the longevity of the results. Occasional touch-ups are a way to refresh the results. The treatments do not change color and fade naturally away with time. For areas such as brows, this allows future flexibility with shape as standards of beauty change. Even if not visible, there will always be vestigial pigment permanently embedded in the skin.
IS IT PAINFUL? We use effective numbing creams that are FDA-approved. On a scale of 1 to 10, with "1" being no discomfort, clients often experience a 2 and 3 with the Brow treatment. Other factors such as menstrual cycles also affect the level of sensitivity.
IS IT SAFE? All our pigments are cosmetic grade, so they are sterilized and purified for cosmetic use. The FDA has approved the ingredients used for cosmetic use. Be wary of products that have not met safety standards, including those that contain "vegetable dyes" that are unstable and may change color after time.
What is the Microblading procedure like? After you've consulted with me to answer any questions and review the process, we will work together to create an outline of your ideal arches. Once you are happy with the shape, I will make a customized blend of pigments based on your preferences to achieve your perfect brow color. Next, using a unique medical-grade tool, We will create hair-like strokes filled with the pigment. Total treatment is usually around 2 hours.

Now that you know what NOT to do, it's time to share our secret recipe for getting excellent microblading results! It's all in the aftercare.
AFTERCARE:
We love a good acronym, so here's one to help you out; think of A - W - M, which stands for Absolutely Wonderful Makeup, or Absorb, Wash, and Moisturize!
The day of the treatment: Absorb. After the procedure, gently blot the area with a clean tissue to absorb excess lymph fluid. Do this every 5 minutes for the entire day until the oozing has stopped. Removing this fluid prevents the hardening of the lymphatic fluids.
Days 1-7: Wash daily to remove bacteria, the build-up of products and oils, and dead skin. (Don't worry, THIS DOES NOT REMOVE THE PIGMENT!) Gently wash your eyebrows each morning and night with water and an antibacterial soap like Dial Soap, Cetaphil, or Neutrogena. With a very light touch, use your fingertips to cleanse the eyebrows gently. Rub the area smoothly for 10 seconds and rinse with water ensuring that all soap is rinsed away. To dry, gently pat with a clean tissue. DO NOT use any cleansing products containing acids (glycolic, lactic, or AHA) or exfoliants.
Days 1-7 Moisturize Apply a rice grain amount of aftercare ointment with a cotton swab and spread it across the treated area. Be sure not to over-apply, as this will suffocate your skin and delay healing. The ointment should be barely noticeable on the skin. NEVER put the cream on a damp tattoo.
AWM should have you covered, but here are some extra tips to help with a smooth and easy recovery:
Important Reminders
Remember, with the proper prep and aftercare routine; you will have much better results with your microblading procedure. Don't forget your new favorite acronym: AWM - Absorb, Wash, Moisturize!
Important note about showering: Limit your showers to 5 minutes so that you do not create too much steam. Keep your face/procedure area out of the water while you wash your body; then, at the end of your shower, wash your hair. Your face should only be getting wet only at the end of the shower. Avoid excessive rinsing and hot water on the treated area.
